Sea Kayak Paddle

Round Pond to Muscongus

Round Pond Harbor

Paddle a sea kayak out to Loud's Island (Muscongus) to the legendary site on Samoset's grave. Historian/archaeologist Dr. Neill DePaoli will be our guide. This paddle, sponsored by Midcoast Kayak in Damariscotta, is in conjunction with Beachcombers' Rest Nature Center's Native American Recognition Celebration Wabanaki Days.

Directions:
From Damariscotta take Route 130 (Bristol Road) to a left on Lower Round Pond in Bristol to Route 32. Take a left on 32 taking a right at Granite Hall Store (Back Shore Road) and following signs to the Public Landing (just beyond Anchor Inn) in Round Pond where we will put in. There is a $2.00 put-in fee to be deposited in a tin box on the pier.

We will proceed to the north end of Louds Island where Native American Chief Samoset is said to be buried.

Bring your own picnic lunch. The duration of the paddle with lunch on the Island will be 2 to 3 hours.

If the weather won't allow a kayak excursion Neill will present a slide show and discussion in the fellowship hall of the Little Brown Church.

Women of the Dawn Book Discussion

Women of Dawn cover

Kay Liss will lead a discussion of Bunny McBride's book.

"Women of the Dawn tells the stories of four remarkable Wabanaki Indian women who lived in northeast America during the four centuries that devastated their traditional world. Their courageous responses to tragedies brought on by European contact make up the heart of this book."
